With an undefined role and limited opportunities to impact his team’s games, Osby says he lost confidence and wanted a new home.

Taylor didn’t get the chance to show recruiting analysts how he stacked up against the country’s elite heading into his senior year of high school. As a result, Taylor now feels that few people have a full grasp of his abilities on the court. He hopes to change that when the Sooners suit up in November.

Stand next to the 6-foot-10 19-year-old and that quickly becomes apparent. Listen to him speak and his thick foreign accent makes it even more obvious. Ahmed, who goes by the first name “Abdi,” is from London, England, and is the first OU men’s basketball player from the United Kingdom. A soccer enthusiast growing up, Ahmed didn’t start playing basketball until he was 16. That’s when former University of North Carolina guard Steve Bucknall, also from England, saw the tall teenager and invited him to give hoops a try.
